The Control HST speaker utilizes JBL’s innovative Hemispherical Soundfield Technology™ to deliver exceptionally wide coverage and minimize primary wall reflections, which often lead to uneven sound when speakers are mounted on walls. This technology creates a broad hemispherical soundfield that spans from wall to wall, enabling a single speaker to provide high-quality, full-range sound across a large listening area. This capability can reduce the number of speakers required to cover a space, thereby lowering the overall cost of a sound system.

A key aspect of the Control HST’s design is its unique, patent-pending configuration. The speaker features a wall-facing woofer and two horizontally splayed tweeters. This arrangement, along with a specially designed wall bracket that positions the speaker at the optimal distance from the wall, ensures proper sound dispersion. The tapered cabinet design further enhances the acoustic performance by providing the necessary loading and dispersion characteristics. Unlike typical on-wall speakers, which have baffles that are set some distance from the wall, the Control HST’s design helps prevent low and low-mid frequency sound waves from wrapping around the speaker. This wrap-around effect can cause these waves to reflect off the wall and recombine with the original sound, resulting in phase interference. This interference can lead to peaks and dips in the frequency response and cause inconsistent sound across the listening area. By significantly reducing these reflections, the Control HST delivers a flatter frequency response and a more uniform sound character throughout the room.

The Control HST is suitable for a wide range of applications, making it an ideal choice for environments such as retail stores, restaurants, corridors, educational facilities, hospitality venues, music cafes, leisure spaces, and upscale lobbies. Its IP-54 rating for outdoor capability also makes it a good option for installations requiring weather-resistant speakers.

The speaker’s well-damped woofer is built with a CMMD ceramic metal matrix diaphragm, which provides a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, ensuring high output and durability while resisting humidity. The dual tweeters are designed with aluminum diaphragms treated with a CMMD coating, surrounded by polyurethane, and feature neodymium magnets and fluid-cooling. This combination ensures high output, low distortion, and resistance to humidity, making the tweeters suitable for various environments.

The Control HST is capable of handling up to 100 Watts of power and is equipped with a 60W 70V/100V multitap transformer. This allows for versatile installation options in distributed audio systems. The speaker’s connection is facilitated through a 4-pin phoenix-type removable locking connector, which also includes loop-thru terminals for easy parallel connection with another speaker. This feature is particularly useful for creating larger sound systems without complex wiring.

In summary, the Control HST offers advanced technology and design features that ensure high-quality sound distribution and consistent performance in a wide variety of applications, both indoor and outdoor. Its innovative Hemispherical Soundfield Technology™ and robust construction make it a versatile and reliable choice for professional audio installations.
