Constructed from rugged hunter green polyethylene, the Control 85M’s enclosure is built to withstand abuse from lawn care equipment and harsh weather conditions. The color is infused throughout the material, ensuring that the speaker retains its appearance even if scratched or scraped. The enclosure features a two-part design that simplifies installation and maintenance. The bottom base section can be pre-installed, and wiring is easily managed before securely closing the top speaker section. This design creates a fully isolated chamber, effectively protecting the speaker and transformer from potential moisture intrusion.
The enclosure includes multiple mounting locations for the exterior gland nut, which is installed by drilling a 22 mm (0.875 in) diameter hole in a chosen location. A second gland nut is situated between the bottom base and the top speaker section to maintain a highly weather-tight seal. The included gland nuts are designed to ensure a water-tight seal when used with round-jacketed cables with an outside diameter between 4.0 mm and 9.0 mm (0.16 in and 0.35 in).
For durability, all external hardware is made from stainless steel, and the grille is powder-coated to resist rust and corrosion. The speaker can be securely anchored to the ground using third-party ground stakes through three attachment points extending from the bottom section of the speaker.
The Control 85M features a 135 mm (5.25 in) diameter low-frequency driver equipped with a Kapton former and a 35.5 mm (1.4 in) voice coil. This configuration enhances power handling capabilities and long-term reliability, with a polypropylene cone and polyurethane surround offering superior strength and moisture resistance. The high-frequency driver, measuring 19 mm (0.75 in) in diameter, utilizes a polyetherimide dome. This driver is noted for its rigidity, strength, and resistance to high temperatures.
The speaker’s high-slope crossover network contributes to its natural sonic character, while SonicGuard™ protection ensures the high-frequency driver’s durability against occasional overdriving.
